Bible reading
by mankkeli indoes anyone still take time to read the bible regularly or occassionally, or you have completely pushed it aside?.
pls give reasons.
-
The Scotsman
I do read the bible - not regularly enough though.
And as Listemer says - it is good reading it without being told what it all means - reading it without bias it much better.

Atheist Fascism
by Band on the Run init is so draining for me to constantly read threads by atheists that assert that those of who are uncertain or have faith have irrational minds.
god can not be proven or unproven.
the harping is tedious.

You hit the nail on the head Band on the Run.

I would describe myself as Christian - but I do not attend any church.
Someday I may start to attend a church but do not feel the need to do so at the moment.

Good luck mouthy.
I have to agree - this site is not what it used to be.
I just hope that JWN remains a strong enough force to help others exit the WTBTS.

Rum or Whiskey?
by J. Hofer inafter a few beers and a bottle of french wine (2007 cote du rhone) i'm having myself some "ron zacapa centenario solera reserva".
but that's probably because i spent a lot of time in latin america.
i guess you gringos are more into whiskey?
-
The Scotsman
Rum is good but whiskey is my prefrerred choice.
Must be a single malt though - none of that blended stuff.
And must not be mixed with water either.
Some good suggestions above - Auchentoshan is a fav, also Laphroig.

A few Dawkins quotes to think about.
by AK - Jeff in"faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence.
faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence.".
"my last vestige of "hands off religion" respect disappeared in the smoke and choking dust of september 11th 2001, followed by the "national day of prayer," when prelates and pastors did their tremulous martin luther king impersonations and urged people of mutually incompatible faiths to hold hands, united in homage to the very force that caused the problem in the first place.".

Dawkins is the personification of arrogance and quite frankly is not as knowledgable on certain subjects than he makes out.
He is entitled to his opinions - but that is all they are.

Do you know who the footballer is???
by highdose inhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1389841/super-injunction-footballer-pictured-scottish-paper-30k-unmask-twitter.html.
this is a story about a famous uk footballer who had an affair.
he took the unusal step of going to court and getting an injuntion to prevent his mistress and the media from naming him.

I was just talking to my cousin Ryan about this and he said I should get out more, perhaps go to a few Giggs!!!!!!!
The injuction does not apply in Scotland as the injunction was obtaioned in the English High Court which has no jurisdiction in Scotland. This is why the Sunday Herald in Scotland printed his picture on the front cover as they were exempt from the injunction.
It is all a nonsense - I bet he wishes he went public about his wee affair - attempting to hide it has back fired hugely.

"Was that a scientifically falsifiable question?"
I was just wondering what Hawkins motives are here - he seems quite definitive in his terminology.
He recently stated that the universe did not need any creator because "Gravity" exists.
Hawkins got blasted in the UK press for this becuase the obviouse question was then "Where did gravity come from"? The silence from the Hawkins camp was deafening in response.
The science community do themselves no favours with this sort of rhetoric.
Hawkins - very smart - most of the time....
